Help Your Web Designer

“A website is your opportunity to craft your message and share it with the world.”

What Is A Website?

A website is a way for you to tell your story in the way you want it to be told.

A website is useful to promote your business and list the products and services you offer.

Questions to Help Create a Website:

You know your products and services, but your potential customers don’t. A website is your opportunity to tell people about your business. Go through this list and write down your ideas and thoughts, then use those to create your website.

  • How do you describe your business to those who do not know about it? What would you tell them in 3 minutes? (Important!)

  • What is your brand? What does your business represent to you?

  • How do you want your customers to see your business?

  • What products and/or services do you offer?

  • What are some of the words and phrases you use to describe your business?

  • What words and phrases would people use to find your business using Google?

  • Use those words to do a Google search for the things you sell and see what websites you find.

Go through those sites and find ones you like. Make a list of those websites.

  • You know a lot about how websites work. Think about what works and doesn’t work for you when you visit other websites, including on your mobile smart phone.

  • What do you like about those websites? Write those likes and dislikes on paper.

  • Get ideas from those sites. Write your ideas on paper.

Things You Will Need to Create a Website:

  • A good description of your business.

  • A list of the things you sell and the services you offer.

  • A logo or an image that represents your business.

  • In addition to a logo you will need at least one or two good pictures that represent your business, that show your products and/or services.

  • Additional design elements such as graphics or icons.

  • Colors are also important. Think of the colors you want to use in your website.

Helping Your Web Designer:

  • The web designer’s job is to help you build a website and refine your words for grammar and to make sense. Your job is to provide your web designer as much information as you can about your business so they can make your website reflect your business.

  • A website requires some simple planning. Not an overly detailed or complex plan.

  • Write down what the website is going to say. Just use simple words.

  • Put your ideas on paper so you can share them with your web designer.

Creating a website is a process:

  • Start by spending some time thinking about your new website using the questions above.

  • You are smart and you know a lot about what you like, what you are selling and what works for you.

  • Use what you know to help craft your website ideas.

  • Talk about your website ideas with friends and family and anyone you do business with.

  • Talk about your website ideas with your web designer.
